About us
Sool, Sanaag & Cayn (SSC) Organisation Sweden is a non-profit organisation established in 2003 by the Swedish-Somali community with roots in the Sool, Sanaag & Cayn regions of northern Somalia. From the initial 15 members, today the organisation has grown to include more than hundreds of individual members.
Many of our members are Swedes with roots in the regions of Sool, Sanaag & Cayn in northern Somalia. We therefore have a particular focus on increasing awareness of these regions and at the same time building bridges between this part of Somalia and Swedish society.
To achieve the association's goals, we work with three main methods: commitment, public education and cooperation. Here is a brief description of how we work with these:
1. Engagement: By engaging members and other stakeholders, we create a strong community and a platform to drive the association's goals forward. The association often organizes activities, e.g. lectures, workshops, trainings or produce information materials that help people understand and get involved in the association's work.
2. Public education: By increasing knowledge and awareness of the issues the association works to spread information about, we try to contribute to a better social development for everyone.
3. Cooperation and networking: By cooperating with other organizations, authorities and local actors, we create a greater and longer-lasting effect.
Our events celebrate the Somali culture, such as traditional music, dance, poetry (e.g., buraanbur), and storytelling. This helps preserve the heritage of the Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn regions. Our intergenerational programs bring together elders and youth, such as oral history projects where elders share stories about their lives in Somalia and their journey to Sweden. We host community dialogues where members can discuss issues affecting the Somali diaspora, such as integration challenges, identity and maintaining cultural ties.
Our mission is to continue to grow, empower our members, and make a meaningful impact both in Sweden and in the SSC regions of Somalia. The organisation's strong foundation and dedicated members are key assets in achieving these goals.
